Like timber framing, childhood memories can last a lifetime...

"I do recall a timber frame story from my very early childhood. When I had only one younger brother, (I now have 8 younger siblings) the two of us used to play in an old timber frame barn that was on my folk's property in Essex Junction, VT. They were concerned that it might someday topple in on the two of us while we were playing in it so my Dad decided to take it down.
I remember watching him gingerly removing all of the roofing and siding boards constantly afraid that it would topple on him. He thought that it was the boards that were holding it up, but when they were gone, the frame still stood. So he then grabbed his old hand powered crosscut saw and proceeded to cut through the posts, again ready to run at the first sign of collapse. When it still would not come down, he hitched up his WWII vintage 4 wheel drive Jeep to the barn with a few long ropes to pull it down. Trying slowly at first, it refused to fall, so he made successively harder yanks until the axle on his jeep broke. That timber frame barn refused to fall until a neighbor came with his tractor and pulled it down.
Needless to say, Mom and Dad wished that they had had a bit more faith in the structural integrity of that old timber frame barn and had left it in place. Over the years, Dad told the story of that barn that refused to fall every chance that he could. Perhaps it was my recollection of that experience that led me to Timberpeg® all those many years ago.”
