LOCAL TIMBERPEG® NEBRASKA INDEPENDENT REPRESENTATIVE MARK BOHN SAYS THAT’S ALL IT TAKES FOR CUSTOMERS TO FALL IN LOVE WITH A TIMBERPEG® HOME For native son Mark Bohn, becoming a local Timberpeg® Independent Representative was a logical next step in his relationship with the company. Mark built his own Timberpeg® home in Ashland, Nebraska, in 1998 with the help of a Timberpeg® Independent Representative in Minneapolis. But when a friend stayed in his home some years later and asked Mark to build him one like it, Mark resigned his position as business development director for a construction company and joined forces with Timberpeg®. ![]() “It’s an interesting story,” says Mark. “I decided to make sure Timberpeg® was the right timber frame company for me. So I visited their offices in New Hampshire and also visited a number of other timber frame manufacturers in the area. Timberpeg® had a great product and all the support I needed. I knew they were the right choice.” Mark sees Ashland as the perfect location for his growing business. In fact, he’s recently taken on a partner, Seth Cato, and the two are hoping to expand into more of Nebraska and other areas. Mark talks about building a relationship with a customer as a multistep process. “The first visit,” he explains, “is really all about learning their lifestyle, habits, hobbies and how they use their current home. The second visit is usually done on site so we can talk about ideas, what they might have envisioned and really get a feel for how their Timberpeg® will look on the property. The third, fourth and ongoing meetings are all about details—getting down to specific needs and how a Timberpeg® can meet them.”Mark’s own Timberpeg® is often featured at Open Homes events, and he’s quick to point out that the experience of walking into a Timberpeg® is the most compelling sales tool he has. “People drive up, walk in and their mouths drop open. It’s sensory overload. Even after ten years, you can still smell fresh wood. If we can get people into our home, they fall in love with the Timberpeg® concept.” Mark’s first Timberpeg® clients were Mark and Chris Whitehead. “We all learned a lot together on the project,” he says. “It was a unique situation as well for the builder—Heritage Builders from Lincoln—since they’d never worked on a Timberpeg® before.” The team that impressed Mark the most during the process was the framing crew led by Denny Russell. “They were fantastic team members. It’s a paradigm shift going from 2” x 4” framing to the Timberpeg® system. But they had a ball. They really enjoyed the work and had a great attitude; they were very professional. They were a big part of what made the job go so well.” When asked about how he deals with problems that do arise, Mark turned things around by proclaiming, “There are no problems, only opportunities! I try to fully understand an issue, then immediately start developing options for resolving it.”
For the moment, Mark is busy with other Timberpeg® projects at Big Sandy. But his future business plans include a move toward building green and exploring smaller, more efficient designs. “Timberpeg® lends itself to this,” he says. “I’ve noticed the Baby Boomers are moving toward smaller houses with finer details. Wood, coziness, big-feeling spaces tucked into small spaces. It’s a trend that really works with the interior characteristics of a Timberpeg®.” |
