Award Winning Timber Frame Commercial Private

"Gold Award" - Commercial Private - Jewell Lodge, Wavus Camp

Jewell Lodge is an 8900 square foot multi-purpose facility at the Wavus Camp, in Jefferson, Maine. The building cost $1,200,000.00, exclusive of the land, which is on Damariscotta Lake.

The Lodge serves several functions at the summer camp, the most important of which is a dining hall. Built in a "camp" style, with wide porches on two sides and views of the lake, the building consists of a forty-two foot by eighty-foot dining hall.

One enters at the second level, off the porch, and the seven bays of Douglas fir timber framed scissors trusses culminate in a large, native stone fireplace.

On either side Howe trusses, also of Douglas fir, run the length of the hall.  Behind the stone fireplace is a conventionally constructed full commercial kitchen with a pass through service window.

The first floor of the building serves as administrative headquarters for the camp, and is used for conferences, seminars, and meeting space both while the camp is in session and during the off season.

The green metal roof and trim, combined with the deep porches and simple clapboard exterior, fit the rest of the camp setting.

Inside, however, the wide-open space, and soaring fir trusses allow room for all the campers to gather, and share their meals together. With extra large windows, and clerestory windows above the sheds, there is plenty of natural light in the dining hall. Combined with the vertical wood siding and fir framing, this helps provide a memorable camp experience.
